We are excited to announce the first-ever 24-Hour Charity Hockey Game!
Taking place September 8th at 8 a.m. to September 9th at 8 a.m. at Progressive Auto Sales Arena, 48 teams will play hockey in this 24-Hour event, all while raising funds for local charities. We are excited to be working alongside the Sarnia Sting to host this for-fun (and a little competition) tournament.
Building on the success of Race to Erase, this is a peer-to-peer collaborative fundraising event. To participate in the 24-Hour Charity Hockey Game, we are asking teams to raise a minimum of $1,000 to participate and perform one good deed in the community. The tournament will kick-start fundraising, with teams having until December 31, 2023, to reach their $1,000 goal and complete their good deed.
At this all-ages event, teams will be assigned a one-hour ice time, and play another team based on age and skill level. Then on Friday night, the Sting will play in an inter-squad game to show off the 2023/2024 team. We also look forward to seeing the Sarnia Legionnaires, Petrolia Flyers and Mooretown Flags also take to the ice for community members to watch and get excited about the upcoming hockey season!
How to get involved
Got a team of hockey-loving friends who also want to help the community! Then it’s time to reserve your spot in the 24-Hour Charity Hockey Game! Have one member of your team visit this link and complete the form. On the form, you will tell us about your team demographics (age, skill level) and the time slot you’re interested in playing in.
Once we receive your reservation, a #charitable team member will reach out to you to complete your sign-up. This is where you will provide your team name (this can be fun or your standby!), select the charity you want to support, and receive your fundraising information.
Once your team has made these selections, each member can sign up and begin fundraising!
Team Expectations
Teams will face off during a 1-hour time between Friday, September 8th at 8 a.m. and Saturday, September 8th at 8 a.m. Teams will have until December 31, 2023, to complete their fundraising and Good Deed requirements. If your team completed your Good Deed prior to the event, we would love to see it to share with the entire community!
#charitable will keep your team up to date on fundraising, your playtime, and any additional details about the event. Your team's focus is on raising funds for your chosen charity and having fun - we’ll take care of the rest!
Charities to Support
Your team will be asked to commit to raising a minimum of $1,000 for charity to participate in the 24-Hour Charity Hockey Game before the end of 2023. This amount can sound like a lot - but if every member of your team raises $50-$100 you will more than meet this total!
For fundraising, your team can choose from one of the following participating organizations:
- Huron House Boys Home
- The Inn of the Good Shepherd
- United Way of Sarnia-Lambton
- Literacy Lambton
- River City Vineyard
- Noelle's Gift to Children
- Women's Interval Home of Sarnia-Lambton
- Alzheimer Society of Sarnia-Lambton
- Lambton County Developmental Services
- Habitat for Humanity Sarnia-Lambton
- SODA (Sarnia Organ Donor's Awareness)
- Big Brothers Big Sisters of Sarnia-Lambton
- Community Concerns for the Medically Fragile
We’ve made fundraising easy by creating an online portal to collect donations. Each member of your team will have their own unique URL address to direct donors to. We can also provide players with a spreadsheet for cash donations.
Good Deeds
In addition to fundraising, we are asking that each team perform a good deed in the community!
To help make performing your good deed even easier, we’ve worked with participating charities to create a list of ideas you can choose from. Is your team feeling creative? Feel free to come up with your own good deed! Prior to the event, we will be contacting your team to ask if you have already completed your Good Deed. This way, during the 24-Hour Charity Hockey Game we can share about all the good that has come from this event in Sarnia-Lambton!
